Verify your company data to identify issues

Follow the below instructions to verify your company data: 

  1. Navigate to Window and then select Close All.
  2. After that, go to the File menu, then select Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data
  4. If you see:
    • QuickBooks detected no problems with your data. It shows that the data is clean, and you need not do anything.
    • An error message. If you get an error message, then search for the error codes on the web and try to troubleshoot it.
    • Your data has lost integrity. This shows data damage in your file. Now, you need to rebuild your data to fix data damage. 

Rebuild your company file data

  1. To rebuild your file, go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities, and then click Rebuild Data.

  4. Choose the location to save your backup, then hit OK
  5. Do not replace another backup file. 
  6. Enter a new name in the File name.
  7. Select Save.
  8. A message will appear indicating Rebuild has completed
  9. Click OK.
  10. Navigate to File, select Utilities, and then select Verify Data again to detect any damage.
    • If you find more damage then you have to fix it manually. You can search for the errors in the qbwin.log on the QuickBooks desktop support site to understand the troubleshooting.
    • If you do not find any error, you can restore a recent backup. Access File, then select Open or Restore Company.

Note: Avoid replacing your current company file. You may need to re-enter information into your company file.
