Visible signs of advancement also create enthusiasm among other staff members where they too can take knowledge from someone who was once where they were before they themselves may move onto a higher role in the future.

When moving from one job to another within the company, the process begins with the vacancy arising when a person has left the position. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as promotion, resignation, retirement, or even if a new position has been created. The job can be in the same department or elsewhere in the organization, even in another branch office or region. Once this gap is identified, the company needs to advertise it internally and/or externally to ensure that suitable candidates can apply for the position competitively.

During this process, current staff may detect opportunities to progress within their organization and apply for other roles due to being familiar with the firms culture and environment. Additionally, shareholders are allowed to identify potential staff with valuable experience and skills that may benefit their business operations. Subsequently, once all suitable candidates have applied for the vacancy, interviews and tests are conducted before selecting someone most suited to take on the responsibility of that particular role, allowing them to potentially progress and grow within their career.
