The following are the main points of the Cathay Pacific baggage policy:
On one-piece concept flights, regular checked bags cannot measure more than 158cm/62 inches in total combined dimensions (L + W + H).
For heavy concept flight, the overall combined dimensions are 203cm/80 inches.
Bags weighing more than 70lb/32kg must be approved in advance, or they will not be allowed.
There is a limit of one handbag per person for
Economy and Premium Economy classes of travel: 15 lbs./7 kg
First Class: 33lbs./15kg
Business Class: 22lbs./10kg
The following are the maximum dimensions for your cabin baggage:

The carry-on baggage allowance for Marco Polo (Silver and Gold) members in all classes is 33lb/15kg for Diamond members and 22lb/10kg for Economy and Premium Class.
If flown by Cathay Pacific or Air New Zealand, a special allowance applies for Hong Kong-Christchurch/Auckland non-stop flights without other sectors.
Allowed without charge are mobility aids, strollers and child restraints.

Cathay Pacific will charge you up to $13-65/kg for overweight baggage that exceeds the weight allotted for heavy concept travel.
A surcharge of $150-280 will apply to carry an additional piece on a one-piece concept flight (to/from/via the United States, Canada and Central or South America), depending on your flight zone.
On heavy concept flights, you must pay if your existing baggage fits the normal weight allowance:

Cathay Pacific Sports Equipment Policy
Most sporting goods are accepted as checked baggage by Cathay Pacific.
Your sporting goods are considered checked baggage under Cathay Pacific's sporting baggage policy. However, if the weight of your sports equipment exceeds the allotted amount, you will be charged an additional baggage fee per item or kilogram (depending on your route).
The following baggage rules will apply on single concept flights (to/from/via the United States, Canada and Central/South America):
Any size of your sporting goods will be calculated as 158cm/62 in total dimensions (L + W + H), no matter how big it is in reality. Any of the following items qualify as sports equipment:
Air mattress or sleeping bag
Backpack, backpack, or rucksack
A set of snow skis with a pair of boots and a pair of ski poles
Two boots and one snowboard
A board to surf the water
A golf bag containing golf shoes and clubs
1 type of bag 22 or satchel style bag
Firearms are properly packed
Avalanche backpacks are booked in advance
A properly packed bike
A set of conventional slalom/water skis
A tackle box, two rods, a landing net, a reel, a pair of fishing boots and adequately packed fishing gear
You will be charged $150 for excess baggage for each piece of sports equipment that is more than 158 cm (62 inches) in length but less than 203 cm (80 inches) in overall dimensions.
You will be charged four times the normal excess baggage charge per piece if the length of the sports equipment exceeds 158 cm/62 inches and the combined dimensions exceed 203 cm/80 inches.
Special Rules for Certain Sports Items
The following sporting goods must be packed under the exact guidelines outlined in Cathay Pacific's baggage policy.
Bicycles
Contact the International Contact Center three days before departure (72 hours).
There is only one seater, non-motorized racing or touring bike.
The bicycle must be securely packed in a suitable hard shell box or container, as specified below. Furthermore, the height of the case (with bicycle) cannot exceed 100 cm/39 inches for flights leaving Zurich.
Handlebars must be wrapped in plastic foam or other comparable material, mounted on the sides or placed along the frame.
Pedals must be attached or removed and covered with plastic foam or similar material.
Tire inflation is necessary.
Avalanche Rescue Backpacks
Each passenger is only allowed one item.
It can be checked in or carried as hand luggage.
It must be stored so that it cannot be activated accidentally.
The airbag must have a pressure relief valve installed on it.
Backpacks carrying compressed gas cylinders (section 2.2) must contain a pyrotechnic trigger mechanism containing not more than 200mg Section 1.4S.
During check-in, you will be required to present your data sheet.
Sporting Weapons comprise the following.
A gun case that can hold up to 2 guns, 11lb/5kg of ammunition, a silencer, small tools and a shooting mat.
Up to 2 shotguns in 2 shotgun cases.
Up to 5 pistols, 11lb/5kg of ammunition, one pistol telescope, small tools and a noise suppressor fit into one pistol case.

Special Baggage Items

Cathay Pacific Musical Instruments Policy
On Cathay Pacific, most musical instruments are accepted.
Musicians can board flights with their instruments in hand luggage, checked baggage or in a reserved cabin seat. Below is a brief summary of Cathay Pacific's musical instrument policy requirements.
Cabin Luggage
Small instruments such as violins and flutes can be transported as cabin baggage under Cathay Pacific's musical instrument policy, provided they can fit in the bin.
Maximum dimensions (including case) and weight must not exceed:

Maximum dimensions are 93 cm by 39 cm by 24 cm (36in x 15in x 9in)
Checked Baggage
Large musical instruments that exceed the hand luggage limit, such as cellos and guitars, can be checked in as long as they are securely packed in a hard case. On a Passenger seat:
If travelers choose not to check in their musical instruments, they can reserve seats for instruments such as guitars, cellos, etc. However, the following conditions will apply:

If the thickness of the instrument is between 31 and 44 cm, it must be tied upside down (12-17in).

Delayed, Lost, and Damaged Baggage

If a checked bag is lost, you must:

2. Damaged Baggage
If your checked luggage is harmed, you must:
Report the incident to the baggage service desk in the airport arrivals area (prior to customs clearance). You will receive a Report File Reference number after submitting the report, which you will need if you need to submit a claim in the future.
Call to report it. You can also call the Cathay Pacific baggage service hotline to report damaged baggage. The report must be submitted seven days after receiving your baggage. You will receive a Report File Reference number when you file your report, which you must keep for future use.

According to IATA regulations, damage claims do not cover defects and minor blemishes, including scratches, scuffs, stains, dirt marks and punctures. Additionally, checked baggage, items not securely packed and items packed too tightly in suitcases should be protected.
